Located within the popular new Maidenhill community in Newton Mearns, the school has unveiled a ‘Secret Garden’ featuring its very own Yellow Brick Road. This new outdoor space is designed to encourage outdoor learning while promoting mental and physical well-being among the pupils.
To mark the official opening of the Secret Garden and Yellow Brick Road, Gordon Edge, the teacher who led the project, invited Emma McBride from Cala Homes' Maidenhill sales team to come and see for herself the pupils’ hard work. The children, guided by Gordon and their families, helped to cultivate, build, and paint the Yellow Brick Road, contributing to the creation of this unique space.
Emma McBride, Sales Consultant at Cala Homes (West) commented: “It was truly inspiring to see the effort and creativity that Gordon and the children have put into making this such a special space. The Secret Garden and Yellow Brick Road will not only provide the pupils with a peaceful environment to learn and play, but it will also be a lasting testament to the power of collaboration between Cala Homes and the local community.”
Gordon Edge, Teacher at Maidenhill Primary School, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Cala Homes for their generous support in helping us create this outdoor space. The Secret Garden and Yellow Brick Road offer our pupils a unique environment where they can connect with nature, enhance their learning, and prioritise their mental and physical well-being. Outdoor spaces like these are vital in fostering creativity, mindfulness, and encouraging active learning. We are thrilled with the result, and it's wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm as they explore, learn and play here."
