Grant Palmer continues to hold bus fares at £2 in Luton and Dunstable

In a bold move to support local communities during a time of rising living costs, Grant Palmer has announced plans to continue to hold its bus fares at just £2 – the lowest of any operator in Luton – despite the national fare subsidy rising to £3.

The decision reflects Grant Palmer’s unwavering commitment to affordability and accessibility. As a locally owned, family-run bus company, Grant Palmer has prioritised the needs of residents in Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, and surrounding areas, helping more people travel for less. The additional £1 discount on the national fare cap is being self funded by Grant Palmer.

Since introducing the £2 fare cap, the company has seen impressive growth across its network. In Linmere, passenger numbers have increased by 30%, showing the impact affordable travel is having on new and growing communities. Meanwhile, the popular Hi service has experienced a remarkable 55% rise in patronage since 2024. In total, tens of thousands of customers have taken advantage of the £2 fare, helping make everyday journeys more accessible and cost-effective.

“This growth shows just how important low-cost, reliable transport is to our customers,” said Thomas Manship, Commercial Manager at Grant Palmer Ltd. “When everyone’s feeling the pinch, it’s down to Bedfordshire’s locally owned family-run bus company to support our communities. We’re proud to be delivering real value for money.”

With fare prices held firmly at £2, Grant Palmer continues to lead the way in providing affordable, high-quality public transport that benefits both regular commuters and occasional customers.
