Carrickfergus optometrist introduces new technology to local community

An independent optometrist in Carrickfergus has recently introduced the latest technology in eye health to their practice, marking an optical ‘first’ for an independent practice in the town.

(L-R) Glen Telford and Gillian French outside R.A. Glass Optometrists.

Established in 1976, R. A. Glass Optometrists have developed a strong reputation in and around the local area, renowned for their expertise and high standards of clinical care.

They are the only independent practice in Carrickfergus to offer Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanning and are thrilled to be able to provide the local community with access to this advanced diagnostic tool.

OCT is a state-of-the-art eye scanning technology that uses light waves to capture highly detailed, cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve. This non-invasive imaging technique allows optometrists to see beneath the surface of the eye, helping to detect and monitor serious eye conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma at an early stage.

Optometrists Glen Telford and Gillian French are incredibly excited about the impact that this technology will have upon the eye health of people in and around Carrickfergus.

Glen and Gillian have both resided at R. A. Glass Optometrists for the past two decades, fostering strong ties with patients at the practice over the years.

"With almost 50 years of combined experience between both Gillian and I, our aim is to continue to provide the people of Carrickfergus with an exceptional eye care service whilst preserving the friendly, community-focused atmosphere that has defined this practice for so long," Glen shared.

“The OCT technology is just one example of how we are investing in the future of eye care for the people of Carrickfergus.  We also strive to offer the newest innovations in spectacle lens technology, contact lens materials and a wide selection of frames.”

“I began my journey here as a trainee optometrist under Mr. Glass, and now 20 years later as the owner of the practice, I’m proud to have seen how the practice has grown and developed over that time. Going forward, I’m determined that patients will continue to receive the highest level of care at R. A. Glass Optometrists.”
