Alan in his Children’s talk! Well was it Christmas or Easter I think only Alan was confused but you see the birth of Jesus and the Easter Story are eternally linked. Easter is the more important for Christians as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. And that’s why at Christmas we celebrate the birth of a very special baby.
Alan’s Sermon – Started by showing us a video clip of Eric Moussambani also known as Eric the Eel who competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics posting the slowest ever 100 meters freestyle. When asked why he didn’t give up he replied my country expected me to start and finish the race.
How many of us start something but don’t finish it! Everyone I bet
Today we look at Jesus last words “It is finished” but what was finished? Well all the Old Testament prophecies have been fulfilled but more than that God’s Plan is finished.
The word used in the original Greek manuscripts is “Tetelestai” this word is also seen in financial papers of the time when a debt is paid then the word Tetelestai is written over the document. Also on artwork of the day the artist would sign Tetelestai confirming the canvas is complete no more brushstrokes are needed.
I think that in Jesus saying “It is finished” he is affirming that our debt of sin of wrongdoing is now paid. The masterpiece of our redemption is complete in this a victory cry. Amen
