Songs of Praise at St Marys Parish Church Motherwell

A service of praise was led by the Rev Bryce Calder. The hymns had been selected by members of the congregation and were accompanied by Ronald Mackie. Ross Carrol, Paul Bradshaw and Bill Simpson. call to worship was led by Calum Blackwood and BryceCalder.

The young people’s address focused on the meanings and reasons Eggs are given at Easter. A chocolate egg represents the stone which was rolled away from the tomb and a decorated hen’s egg a symbol of new life. 

Stuart Dick read the scripture passage from Luke’s gospel which told of the disciples encounter with Jesus on the road to Emmaus following the resurrection. They only recognized Him as they broke bread at supper and listened to His teachings. 

The reflection looked at the importance of The Word and The Sacrament. These are the most important elements in ministry, teaching the word and celebrating the sacraments. By sharing in communion we remember Christs sacrifice for us all on that. First Easter.

Foodbank and Reachout donations required and will be grateful received for distribution. Guild trip to Perth takes place on Monday May 12th and on Monday 19 th May a special event will take place at 7pm. 

A Trip Down Memory Lane is planned which will include a showcase of memorabilia from organisations and visual reminiscences from the past. Come along and enjoy this opportunity to remember and celebrate the history of St Mary’s. Refreshments will be available.
