New survey insights from Collingwood Insurance, a leading learner insurance provider, show that instructors believe that longer lessons and private driving practice outside of lessons can boost pupil pass rates. More than 90 per cent (92.31) of instructors surveyed (100 responses from instructors across the UK) encourage learners to build up private practice, with two thirds recognising that those who engage in private practice pass their test quicker.
In other key headlines, 60 per cent of instructors believe that learners can get ahead by taking part in a mock test to ensure they’re ready for their practical assessment, with more than 80 per cent of instructors citing nerves and test anxiety as the biggest challenge for learners during their examination.
Gillian Tompkins, Contact Centre Head of Department at Collingwood Insurance, said: “The data we’ve gathered shows that private practice isn’t just recommended, it’s viewed by driving instructors as a key part of building learner confidence and improving test readiness.
“We know nerves and test anxiety are major hurdles for many learners, so helping them feel more prepared through practice outside of lessons can make a real difference and is something we strongly support at Collingwood.”
Following the news of delays to practical test appointments, UK driving instructors are supporting practice outside of lesson times to build confidence and boost pass rates.
According to the survey, 82% of instructors said building confidence between lessons was the main reason they encourage private practice.
Gillian added: “By building familiarity with real-world driving scenarios and spending more time behind the wheel, learners who practice outside of lessons are often more relaxed and better prepared, contributing directly to improved pass outcomes.
“With the right insurance, this kind of practice can be a game-changer, reinforcing the skills learnt in formal lessons in a less pressurised environment to reduce nerves and build confidence on the road,”
Collingwood’s flexible learner driver insurance allows pupils to get the practice they need, working on skills and manoeuvres, at a pace that suits them, while being affordable and simple to set up.
