Over the past few years, the housebuilder has collaborated with Yardleys School in Tyseley, Birmingham, on a range of projects to aid the development of its pupils and their learning experience.
Having previously attended the school’s Careers Fairs to showcase the career options in the construction industry, Barratt Homes has more recently welcomed a group of students to its Hall Green development, The Elms, and contributed to Yardleys’ praise and recognition programme.
For the latter, the school kept track of positive incidents involving its pupils and recorded 72,813 across all year groups between September 2023 and February 2024, with an increase to 97,171 between September 2024 and February 2025 since the incentive was introduced; an increase of more than 25%.
The homebuilder contributed £875 for Amazon gift vouchers, which allowed 35 students to each receive a £25 Amazon voucher for their hard work.
Laura Yates, Deputy Headteacher at Yardleys School, said: “Our students enjoyed the visit to The Elms and were interested in the many different roles that Barratt Homes had onsite, and the process involved in developing the houses. They were eager to talk about the social housing on the development, as well as the schemes available to help local people buy the houses.
“Having Barratt Homes pay for the vouchers we used during our celebration week was essential in the current financial climate, as all schools continue to work hard with managing their budgets. Our students understand that praise and recognition are just as valuable as rewards, but equally having the finances to reward them with the gift vouchers was a great incentive for them to continue to work hard.
“All of these activities help to support our yearly careers programme, which helps develop the students’ understanding of the working world awaiting them when they leave Yardleys.”
Supporting the schools close to its developments is a key part of Barratt Homes’ commitment to giving back to its local communities, and the partnership with Yardleys School is sure to continue as the housebuilder’s development The Elms progresses.
Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “It’s been fantastic to work with Yardleys School over the past few years and we have enjoyed seeing the impression the collaborative projects have had on the pupils.
“We were pleased to support the school’s recent initiatives, giving the children a chance to join our team onsite at The Elms and contributing to its praise and recognition programme.”
