The report describes Heartlands as a place where pupils “feel safe and surrounded by people who want them to succeed and be happy.” Behaviour was noted as exemplary, with pupils engaging positively in school life both inside and outside the classroom.

Heartlands’ mission to ‘empower dreams’ is central to its success, with pupils encouraged to be “academically and personally ambitious.” The curriculum was found to be ambitious and inclusive, ensuring that all pupils, including those with special educational needs, are supported to learn and succeed. Inspectors were particularly impressed with how consistently well teachers deliver lessons and how pupils “take pride in producing work of a high standard”.

The inspection team highlighted several aspects of school life as being “exemplary,” including the school’s work to support reading, the personal development of pupils, and its high-quality approach to safeguarding and attendance. The report also acknowledges the wide range of leadership opportunities and extracurricular clubs available to pupils, from rap club to safeguarding ambassadors, and the value placed on diversity through events like culture days.

Sophia Haughton, headteacher at E-ACT Heartlands Academy, said:

“We are incredibly proud of this glowing report. It reflects the dedication and care shown every day by our staff, the ambition of our pupils, and the strength of the relationships we’ve nurtured with families and our community. We’re especially pleased that Ofsted recognised the way we support every pupil to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

“The inspectors were blown away by the students and said that they were a credit to the school, their parents and the community.”

Tom Campbell, CEO of E-ACT, commented:

“Heartlands Academy exemplifies what it means to ‘Think Big’. This report is a testament to the incredible work happening every day at Heartlands to open young minds to what is possible. It reflects a school that is not only delivering academic excellence, but also teaching young people to be thoughtful, responsible and confident members of society.

“The culture of excellence, inclusion and care at the academy is truly exceptional. Heartlands is a school that changes lives, and we are thrilled that Ofsted has recognised that so clearly.”
