Walsall property with planning for 28 apartments goes under the hammer

The former Equator nightclub and adjoining historic warehouses in the centre of Walsall are to be auctioned this month with a guide price of £360,000. The site will go under the hammer with planning consent in place to develop 28 residential units in a scheme that would combine new build and refurbishment.

The town-centre site, which includes a Grade II listed building, on Lichfield Street, was last used as a nightclub in 2018 since when it has been disused. It will feature among over 200 other properties and plots of land in the next live streamed sale to be held by SDL Property Auctions, part of Eddisons, on 27 March.

The site will be sold with consent to demolish the former nightclub, retaining the façade of the listed Victorian warehouse building next door and creating a 14,000 sq ft, 28-apartment development.

Andrew Parker, auctioneer and partner at SDL Property Auctions, said: “With planning consent already secured, this is a rare opportunity to develop an attractive residential scheme that will provide sought-after accommodation for the buoyant Walsall town centre residential market.

“Innovative developments like this one are in demand in the town and the fact that significant investment to enhance and regenerate the town centre is currently underway bodes well for this site as a really good investment opportunity.”

He added: “This Lichfield Street site is also less than half a mile from the train station and Walsall has great transport links to the likes of Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Lichfield, adding to its appeal as a place to live.”

The auction will be live streamed online on 27 March, with bidder registration closing on 26 March.
