Following the extraordinary critical and public response to the BBC’s Wolf Hall – The Mirror and the Light, which has received BAFTA nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor (Damian Lewis), Wolf Hall in Concert brings the acclaimed world of Thomas Cromwell to the stage in Birmingham for one night only, Friday 30 May 2025 at Town Hall.

Hilary Mantel’s award-winning ‘Wolf Hall’ trilogy has captivated readers and viewers alike, and was transformed into a gripping television drama to huge acclaim. Accompanying Cromwell’s rise and fall , through machinations, hushed conversations in shadowy palace corners, and eventual execution, is the haunting original score by Debbie Wiseman OBE, performed live by the celebrated Locrian Ensemble of London and soprano Grace Davidson.

In this special concert setting, Debbie, the Ensemble and Grace Davidson perform music from the best-selling soundtrack, alongside readings from the trilogy by BAFTA-nominated actor Anton Lesser, who played Sir Thomas More in the BBC series. Atmospheric imagery from the books and the television adaptation will complete this powerful, immersive experience.

“I am very excited and looking forward to performing ‘Wolf Hall in Concert’ with Debbie and the wonderful Locrian Ensemble,” said Anton Lesser.

“Creating the score for ‘Wolf Hall’ has been a highlight of my career, so to have the opportunity of performing it live with the exceptional musicians that performed on the score is a real thrill,” said Debbie Wiseman. “Alongside the brilliant Anton Lesser reading specially selected excerpts from Hilary Mantel’s novel, we’re hoping to transport the audience into the intrigue and subterfuge of King Henry’s court.”

Described by Classic FM as: “Haunting… Wiseman’s score perfectly suited the feel… deceptively simple, replete with the tense undercurrents that characterise the plotting and intrigues of the Tudor court,” this is a rare opportunity to experience the drama, atmosphere and elegance of Mantel’s Tudor world through a live performance blending music, narration and visuals.
