Free programme launches to help West Midlands creatives break into the industry

Punch Records, a Birmingham-born music and arts agency, has officially announced the return of its acclaimed ‘Community Routes’ programme — a free, week-long creative residency aimed at helping 18- to 25-year-olds across Birmingham and the West Midlands break into the creative industries.

The 2025 scheme will help young creatives break into the industry

The 2025 scheme, which opens for applications soon, will support 50 emerging creatives across five key disciplines: Graphic Design, Music Technology, Event Production, Film, and Vocal Performance. With just 10 places per camp, participants will receive personalised mentoring and hands-on experience, which will equip them to flourish in their chosen fields.

The initiative is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, emphasising a strong commitment to investing in the region’s creative future.

As part of the programme, participants will also receive free travel money and lunch, removing financial barriers and opening access to young people from low-income backgrounds across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Lizzie Giles, Producer at Punch Records, said the programme is about helping young creatives take their talent to the next level:

"We are thrilled to offer such a dynamic, hands-on opportunity for participants to develop professionally and creatively, all while learning from industry experts. Last year’s event received such incredible feedback that we’re excited to build upon that in year two."

Applications for the 2025 cohort open from Monday 14th May to Monday 30th June, giving young people the chance to join a scheme that runs from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, followed by an exclusive networking event on Saturday 23rd August.

Participants must be based in Birmingham or the West Midlands. You can find out more information here: https://www.wearepunch.co.uk/community-routes
