A group of 43 learners in Years 8 to 11 from Lyndon School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, have recently returned from an enriching six-day residential trip to the Bay of Naples in Italy where their classroom learning came to life in spectacular fashion.
The cross-curricular experience was designed to deepen learners' understanding of the humanities through real-world exploration, linking geography, history, religious studies, and modern foreign languages.
Learners immersed themselves in the rich history and geography of the region, visiting world-renowned sites including Pompeii, where they walked through ancient ruins shaped by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius; Mount Vesuvius itself, where they examined the geographical features and considered the role of active volcanoes in shaping local civilisation; and Paestum, where they reflected on the cultural legacy of the Greeks while witnessing local Easter celebrations.
Beyond academic learning, the trip also provided a platform for learners to practise basic Italian and to demonstrate key Lyndon character virtues — especially compassion, integrity, resilience, and resourcefulness.
Head of School, Syreeta Kapswara said: “Learners who attended this trip had a fantastic opportunity to embed the knowledge-rich curriculum learned within school in an unfamiliar setting, providing an opportunity for them to develop their resilience and their understanding of how people live within the Napoli region.
“All learners were a credit to the school through the high levels of engagement with the historical sites attended, but also in their conduct with local people, demonstrating the Lyndon character virtues we hold in high esteem.”
