Local opticians puts charity in focus

Colleagues at two local opticians put their best foot forward at the Royal Sutton Fun Run on Sunday (1 June), alongside sponsoring the event for the 12th year running.

The team completed the run and were greeted by the Centre manager

Specsavers’ sister stores Mere Green and Sutton Coldfield, which are locally owned and run, joined the celebrations on the day, completing the 8.5-mile route and raising £2,000 so far for the Cancer Support Centre.

‘The Sutton Fun Run is a key calendar event in the community, and we were delighted to be part of it once again,’ Andrew Pennicott, store director at the sister stores, comments. ‘It’s always a well-attended event and we’re thrilled with how much we managed to raise.

‘We know times continue to be tough at the moment, so we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated and helped us reach our fundraising total.’

The fun run, which is now in its 43rd year, follows a route through the town and participants can either walk or run their way around. The 22-person team were also supported by a Specsavers’ home visits car that led the runners round.

The Cancer Support Centre was founded in 2001 and helps people and their loved ones living with cancer. To find out more visit  suttoncancersupport.org/.
