The event, held at The Monastery in Manchester, was the 11th edition and aimed to recognise local people who contribute to their community.
As Community Champion at Tesco Gorton, Liz is responsible for managing a small community donation budget for community groups or events, as well as organising fundraisers and being a point of contact for charities receiving Tesco’s support.
Some of the projects for which she was recognised in her recent award included supporting local schools with breakfast club donations, providing toiletries to the local care home, collecting emergency food parcels for families, Easter eggs, and toys and selection boxes at Christmas.
Liz said: “I’m happy to have even been considered for this award, and so proud to have won. To win the award was truly an honour. I enjoy my role as a Community Champion helping my community, and I’m proud to win for my Tesco store.
“The awards ceremony was a lovely evening, I went with my son and enjoyed the two-course meal at the Monastery, which is a lovely building, and I was thrilled to meet the Lord Mayor of Manchester.”
Tesco Community Champions are store colleagues tasked with providing a link between the store and the community it serves. They are in charge of organising fundraising activities for causes the team and shoppers are passionate about, as well as managing a small community donation budget that can be used for financial support for community groups or events.
Liz continued: “Helping the Gorton community is something I’m passionate about, and I feel so lucky that it’s part of my job. We have lots of upcoming plans at the Gorton store and it’s lovely to draw attention to them.”
