Matty Feurtado is an emerging documentarian who has been working on stories in Afghanistan, and central/ south Asia since his teens. His work intends to represent the dignity and power in the so-called ‘powerless’, gravitating towards rural communities as they build a sense of home. Through this work he has created a scholarship and raised money for displaced people and flood relief. His work has gained a following online with millions of views across platforms.
Between the 15th and 18th of June, Matty will be displaying his work, alongside local and refugee collaborators. Titled, Ismaili Rockpools, photography and art film taken in an Ismaili community in Badakhshan, Afghanistan is paired with archive, painting, video and textile work from another Ismaili community who migrated from Badakhshan to Pakistan. It centres Ismaili lives, a global minority who often go under the radar, but have created an incredibly resilient network that helps to protect their interests from majority hegemony, the environment and geo-politics.
The exhibition will be held at Trinity Centre Bristol, with the intention of touring beyond that.
