With players from local youth football teams such as Greenisland FC, Carrick Rangers and Larne FC to name a few, the Model have been well equipped to fight for trophies on all fronts and that has proved the case, dominating the local football scene. It's a remarkable feat and with competition from rivals Victoria and Whitehead, it wasn't always straightforward.
The u-11 Schools league was won earlier in the year after a nail-biting play-off win against a well-drilled Whitehead team, coached by Irish League stalwart Jonny Addis. The 5-a-side trophy, Carrick Rangers Cup and u-10s league soon followed, with the boys in red and navy pipping Victoria to the league.
It seems regular commitment to training and a hard-working approach has served the boys well as they only became more formidable as the season progressed. In recent seasons, the Model have often finished second best and it makes their incredible trophy haul this year even sweeter.
Their success hasn't always been plain sailing, with near misses against Woodlawn PS in a tense 4-3 win, underlining how tricky it is to win even one trophy in the schools' league. The teams have been captained by Lewis Steele and Kelvin McCarley, who have helped to instil a determination to give every game their best and to leave everything out on the pitch.
No doubt the Model's success this season will go down in the memory of all players, parents and coaches connected to the teams and is something not likely to be forgotten. Well done Carrick Model PS.
