Organised by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), the 12th annual ECI Training and Development Awards in London brought together industry leaders, as well as the rising stars of tomorrow.
Held at One Marylebone, an iconic Grade I listed building in the heart of the capital, the event was hosted by Chair of the ECITB Innov8 Group Chinwe Odili, a STEM champion and award-winning structural engineer from Kent plc.
Fluor, which delivers engineering, procurement and construction projects to clients globally, took home two awards for ED&I Initiative of the Year and the Leading Industry Safety accolade.
The company was recognised by the judges for its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion “as a moral imperative”. Initiatives have included neurodiversity talks, sign language classes, menopause awareness and STEM outreach to underrepresented groups such as female graduates.
The safety award recognises organisations that have demonstrated innovation in cultivating a safe working environment through education, training, mentoring, programmes or protocols.
Fluor was honoured for making safety its “first core value” which drives the actions of everyone in the company daily. Its submission highlighted how the company aims to innovate workplace safety by promoting a culture of caring and leading the implementation of best practices.
Michele Foreman, HR Director at Fluor, said: “We can’t believe we’ve won two. We were finalists last year but didn’t win, so this is just fantastic. We’re super excited and proud.
“To have had our ED&I initiatives recognised demonstrates the carefully curated initiatives and events that we’ve run that are not just diverse, but truly inclusive and equitable.
“We’ve worked hard to ensure everyone has a sense of belonging and has had equal opportunity to contribute to influence our workplace culture. Our commitment to ED&I is not just about compliance, it’s an imperative.
“Attracting and retaining the best talent enables us to drive innovation, harness the full potential of our workforce and deliver superior results for our clients.”
On the safety accolade, Office Services Senior Manager Helen Heaney, who looks after health and safety at Fluor, added: “Safety is one of our core values at Fluor and is an integral part of our DNA. Living safer together promotes the wellbeing of our people, communities and the environment.
“Our teams are dedicated to making sure everyone stays safe and looks out for each other through various training programmes and initiatives.”
