Luckily, Rescue Remedies Dog & Cat Rescue in Horley, Surrey, was able to offer Hoops a safe place to stay, and for the past couple of months, Hoops has been patiently waiting for his new retirement home, where he can live out his twilight years.
Despite what he has been through, Hoops has an abundance of love to give and is a favourite with all the volunteers at the rescue centre. He is a friendly, affectionate gentleman who adores being around humans — especially if they’re offering him a stroke or have treats to share, and he has no problems being picked up for a cuddle.
You’d be forgiven for mistaking Hoops for a small panther, as his black fur, complete with a few grey hairs, plus his chunky physique, creates quite the presence. But fear not — he is a very gentle giant.
At 15 years old, Hoops is considered a senior cat, and sadly, this is likely why he’s been left behind at the shelter, while his younger neighbours have been adopted.
Older cats are often overlooked, but there are so many benefits to welcoming a golden oldie into your home, besides the fact that you’re giving a cat in need a second chance at happiness.
Senior cats need less supervision than younger cats and will happily curl up on their own. They’re usually more relaxed than kittens (but this doesn’t mean they don’t like to play!).No housetraining necessary — senior cats know how to use a litter tray and have already learned their manners.Hoops is a big softie and would appreciate a quiet home where he can lap up all of his new owner’s attention, as and when he requires it. While he would likely spend most of his time indoors, he’d love to have access to a garden for occasional wanders.
