Operating as a charity since 1986, St Paul’s Centre runs a wide range of services that are vital to the local community in Crewe. As well as providing food parcels to those in need, the charity runs a furniture service, café, cycle workshop, footwear supply, and more.
The foodbank works through referrals from third parties, such as housing support officers, social services or a GP. Once the referral takes place, the charity will assemble the parcel within a couple of days. It also welcomes donations from the community with a number of local collection points available.
Jez Chalmers, Deputy CEO at St Paul’s Centre, said: “In the last quarter, we have helped over 350 households with an emergency food parcel that lasts about a week – this works out at over seven tonnes. Overall in 2024, we have helped nearly 1,400 households with vital food parcels, so around 28.5 tonnes of food!
“This kind donation of £200 from David Wilson Homes will equate to approximately two full shopping trolleys of food which will make a massive difference to the benefactors.”
St Paul’s Centre is operated by a team of fantastic volunteers and has a number of vacancies currently available, including within the foodbank, with a need for extra hands to assist with processing donations, and assembling and distributing food parcels.
Claire Jarvis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As a leading homebuilder, it is really important that we support the community in the areas in which we build.
“St Paul’s Centre is offering a life-changing service to its clients, and we are happy to support this with our recent donation. We wish its volunteers the best of luck for the coming months and, in difficult times like these, we’re encouraging more people to support their local community where possible.”
David Wilson Homes is currently building near to St Paul’s Centre in Crewe at Sydney Place on Sydney Road.
