Huge blow for local jobs as Giltbrook factory set to close

More than 60 jobs are set to go after Filtrona confirmed it is closing its Giltbrook site.

Filtrona is closing its Giltbrook site with potential loss of more than 60 jobs.

The company, formerly known as PP Payne, is a packaging and services contractor and made tear tape at the Giltbrook site.

A worker at the site, who asked to remain anonymous, contacted your Advertiser to say that the site was closing and that more than 60 local people would be losing their jobs as a result.

And now, following enquiries by your Advertiser, the company has confirmed the bad news for the local economy, saying that the site will shut in July.

In a statement, the company said: "Having entered into a collective consultation period on April 3, during which all other reasonable options to maintain the site were explored, Filtrona Group Holdings Limited has now taken the difficult decision to cease tear tape production at the Giltbrook site in Nottingham by the end of July 2024.

"The decision comes in response to the significant challenges to the long-term commercial and operational viability of the site.

Robert Pye, Filtrona chief executive, added: "We understand this is hugely disappointing news for our colleagues based in Nottingham, but the reality is that the tapes business has been operating in a challenging market for some time.

"We would like to thank affected employees for their professional engagement in the consultation process.

"It's also important to reiterate that this decision is in no way a reflection on the quality or commitment of the staff, but rather a consequence of the prevailing market conditions.

"Filtrona Group Holdings Limited is working closely with employees in finding suitable financial and practical support while at the same time engaging local outplacement organisations."
