Broxtowe Council leader announces he's standing in May's Nottinghamshire Council election

Broxtowe Council leader Coun Milan Radulovic has been announced as the Broxtowe Alliance candidate for May's Nottinghamshire Council election.

Coun Milan Radulovic will stand for the Broxtowe Alliance at the county council election.

Coun Radulovic (Ind) was one of 18 councillors who quit the Labour Party earlier this year over the way the party was heading under Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

He now leads the newly-formed Broxtowe Alliance on the council - which is separate to the also newly-formed Broxtowe Independents.

And he will now be on the ballot paper for the Broxtowe Alliance Party for the county council election on May 1.

Coun Radulovic, an Eastwood man, says one of the reasons he is standing is he believes national, Westminster politicians have 'turned their back on the working class, the ordinary folk of Eastwood'.

He said: “This country is on a collision course with disaster with the housing crisis, social care, childrenservices, local democracy all under threat as a result of austerity.

"Peoples hope and expectations are being undermined by a system where the establishment takes all the money, with nothing finding its way to those that need it most.

"Anything I can do to stop this happening I will endeavourto do so.

"I have and always will continue to stand up for the people of Broxtowe, and especially for my home town of Eastwood.

"We need  a strong local voice fighting our corner during the proposed local government reorganisation, with Labour suggesting Eastwood becomes part of Nottingham City Council.

"I believe the concentration of power in the hands of fewer people and the abolition of local democracy through the current proposals of super councils is nothing short of a dictatorship, where local elected members, local people, local residents will have no say over the type and level of service provided in their area.

"It is an unhealthy place for a democracy to be in.

"There is no debate, no consideration, no understanding of the needs of local people.

"This cannot be right.

I want the best for ordinary folk, our communities and our towns.

"Nobody is speaking up for us so I want to be that voice’”

A Broxtowe Alliance spokesperson said: "This man is a man you want on your side, fighting your corner.

"Milan absolutely lives and breathes Eastwood, nobody cares more about fighting the system to get the best for his home town.

"We are enormously proud to have him leading our party and proud he will now lead the fight for Eastwood on the county council."
