These lifts began their life seven years ago and have been seen through by the wonderful Friends of Beeston Station, who have ushered this project with previous MPs Anna Soubry and Darren Henry.
Well done to all involved in making Beeston station more modern and accessible!
I was pleased to welcome the Government’s Minister for Water and Flooding, Emma Hardy, to Broxtowe.
She visited the sites around Beauvale Brook, Coach Drive and the Eastwood Town Cricket Club to hear first-hand accounts from residents about their experiences and concerns over the flooding caused by Storm Babet.
This was a great opportunity to ensure local voices in Broxtowe were heard at the highest level to bring forward preventative measures for flooded communities in Broxtowe.
As part of the Plan for Change, the Government is committing a record two-year investment of £2.65 billion for flood defences from March 2026.
This is much welcomed after years of underfunding, and I will continue to talk with the Minister following her visit.
Vital to this work is ensuring that other agencies are involved in flood prevention and response to monitor the implementation of effective preventative measures.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, I was privileged to visit a new shop, ‘Pretties in the Wood’ in Eastwood, run by the brilliant Broxtowe Women’s Project. The shop sells pre-loved
and handcrafted items that have been donated.
The Project does amazing work supporting and empowering women who are survivors of domestic abuse, and the shop supports fundraising for their vital work.
I am always impressed by the humble dedication of our community members.
I was pleased to attend the Broxtowe Voluntary Awards last month, celebrating exceptional contributions by volunteers in Broxtowe, where just a few of these individuals were honoured for their selfless contributions.
The winners were truly inspiring, and I was particularly struck
with the young volunteers and fundraisers.
Well done to everyone, and I would like to say a personal thank you for your contributions to our community in Broxtowe.
