Kimberley still ‘open for business’ as roadworks closures begin on Main Street

Kimberley Council says the town is still very much ‘open for business’ despite Main Street now being closed in phases for the next two months.

Main Street in Kimberley is now closed for the next two months but the town is still very much 'open for business', the council says

The closures are in place for Cadent to carry out gas mains inspection and replacement works and connect the gas supply to a new property on the street.

In addition, National Grid will be installing new ducting and cabling from Nine Corners into James Street, and Severn Trent will be sewer repairs at the junction with Greens Lane.

Posting on its Facebook page, the council said: “Main Street is closed, but you can still access all of our wonderful shops and businesses via diversion routes, with all Broxtowe Council-owned car parks free and with no time restrictions.

"Buses are diverted but the closest stops for Rainbow 1 are Larkfields Road or Maws Lane (travelling out of Nottingham) or Greens Lane (travelling from Eastwood).

"This is also the closest stop for the 27 travelling out of Ilkeston via Swingate.

“If, however, you have the ability to walk we encourage you to please do so to support local businesses, or you can cycle and take advantage of our newly-installed cycle shelter at the newly-improved Toll Bar Square at the bottom of Newdigate Street.

"Kimberley has a plethora of brilliant independent businesses that need supporting through this time, so please remember – Kimberley is still open for business.”

In planning papers, Cadent has also appealed for residents to park responsibly during the works period to allow space for passing traffic, buses and refuse collections.

It added: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and assure you we will endeavour to minimise disruption as reasonably practicable.”
