Looking back at photos, she no longer recognized the person she saw.
That moment of realisation was the final push she needed to take control of her health.
Fast forward to today, and Gemma has lost 3st 2lb, reaching her target weight of 9st.
But the numbers tell only part of the story.
She has embraced the Slimming World Food Optimising plan, discovering a variety of meal choices that have transformed the way she eats.
With a recipe book tailored for air fryers and slow cookers, she has made healthy eating a family affair, turning nutritious food into a shared experience.
Gemma said: “I am never hungry on the plan, the meals are so versatile, and I love the fact that my family benefit too."
Like many others, the biggest challenge she faced was confronting the truth.
Before joining, she had never fully acknowledged her weight, and facing the reality of old habits was a shock.
But rather than being discouraged, Slimming World helped her reframe her perspective—educating her on healthy choices while making food both enjoyable and nourishing.
The transformation has extended beyond her physical appearance.
As a fitness yoga instructor, Gemma used to feel self-conscious leading her classes, struggling with the contradiction between her professional role and how she felt inside.
Today, she stands before her students with renewed confidence, energised, and assured.
Her happiness is palpable - not just to herself, but to her family, who have noticed the remarkable change.
Improved health has been another welcome result.
Where once breathlessness and sluggishness were everyday obstacles, Gemma now enjoys better sleep, radiant skin, and renewed vitality.
Her Slimming World group at Kimberley, led by Caroline Radford at RumbleTums Café, has been a crucial support system.
Gemma said: "The support around me was so valuable, I needed that group of likeminded people, who were there for the same reasons as me.
"There was never any judgment, and I always felt safe and supported on to lose every week”
Gemma’s consultant Caroline added: "Seeing Gemma receive her target award was a special moment, one met with applause and pride from fellow members who have watched her journey unfold.
"Now, she pays it forward, motivating others to achieve their own goals.
"Gemma’s story is a testament to the power of self-belief, community, and the willingness to embrace change.
"Her success is not just measured in pounds lost but, in the confidence, health, and happiness she has gained along the way."
