The factory was built for Richard Birkin in March 1880 for the manufacturing of lace curtains.
This curtain trade ended between 1904 and 1908 however, and was replaced with hosiery.
Several business owners operated from the building before Tyler, Sons and Wolsey took it over in 1920.
After the Second World War large extensions were made with further factories being built across the road on Factory Lane and in Ilkeston.
In 1983 Wolsey was taken over by Courtaulds. Then in 1985 the factories were closed and demolished.
