During the war Mrs Spray received the news that Ron was missing in action at El-Alamain. Later she received word that he was a prisoner in Italy, where Ron met his brother Les, who had been taken prisoner at Tobruk.

After the war, Ron resumed his employment as a knitter with Wolsey Ltd. In 1990 about 100 guests joined Freda and Ron at Greasley.
