Well-known Horace with wife at war memorial

Horace Hibbert and his wife Alice are pictured here at the Kimberley war memorial service in 1992.

Horace Hibbert was a chorister and a church warden at Holy Trinity Church, Kimberley.

A well known and respected resident in the town, Horace was a chorister at Kimberley Holy Trinity Church for 57 years. He was also church warden for 25 years.

A keen footballer in his younger days, he was also secretary to Kimberley Town Football Club for 25 years.

During the Second World War, Horace served with the Royal Artillery in India and Burma. He died on October 51994 aged 74.

On February 28 1995 a tribute to Horace Hibbert was held when a football match was played in his honour on the town’s Stag ground.

In the background of the photo you can see people gathered round the Cenotaph at the bottom of Greens Lane.
