Evening of Bliss for classical music fans to enjoy at Royal Concert Hall

Star conductor John Wilson returns to Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on February 26 for an evening entitled Discovering Bliss.

Conductor John Wilson.

Teaming up again with presenter Stephen Johnson and the BBC Philharmonic, Wilson will be helping to shine a light on the music of Sir Arthur Bliss, one of the most talented, yet strangely underrated, British composers of the 20th century.

From his early days at the cutting edge of British classical music in the 1920s to a 22-year stint as Master of The Queen’s Music, Bliss produced a large collection of music, always engaging, interesting and enjoyable to listen to.

In Discovering Bliss, you will hear live musical illustrations from the BBC Philharmonic, playing the engaging ballet music Overture: Miracle of the Gorbals and the March from his most famous film score, Things To Come, before a complete performance of the late Bliss masterpiece, the Metamorphic Variations.
