With new music director Mark Prescott at the helm, it takes place on November 16 at Nottingham’s Albert Hall.
The performance features two familiar and popular Russian works, plus the chance to hear a piece by an American female composer whose stock is rising after decades of neglect.
The concert starts with the lively and romantic overture to Borodin’s opera, Prince Igor, followed by the much-loved Second Piano Concerto by Rachmaninov, one of the most popular in the repertoire. Returning to NSO concert action is guest soloist, Simon Callaghan.
The other piece in the concert is the First Symphony by Florence Price, a tuneful and appealing work inspired by diverse influences such as African dances, Dvorak, spirituals and hymns.
