Running from 6pm to 7pm, the evening promises to be an uplifting and memorable event, bringing together generations to reflect, remember and share in a celebration of peace and unity.
The care home's garden will be transformed with traditional wartime-themed bunting and decorations, setting the scene for a nostalgic evening. Residents will be joining in the festivities, many of whom still share their vivid memories of the Second World War and the momentous day it came to an end.
Entertainment on the night will be provided by the fantastic Tullis Russell Big Band, offering a selection of wartime favourites. Guests can also enjoy storytelling and poetry from local resident Dave Henderson, whose previous visits to the home have been deeply moving and well received.
The Lomond View kitchen team will be serving a selection of traditional wartime nibbles, adding an authentic flavour to the evening.
Lomond View’s Service Manager, Samantha Thomson shared: “VE Day is a time to honour the memories of those who lost their lives, and to recognise the sacrifices made by all who served. Speaking with our residents, some of whom lived through the war, reminds us of the hardship – the blackouts, the air raids, the fear – but also the strength and community spirit of that time. We hope this gathering brings people together to both reflect and celebrate the resilience shown during that dark chapter in history.”
Residents and staff have already been out and about in the village, hand-delivering invitations to neighbours and local businesses, building excitement for what is set to be a truly lovely community occasion.
All are welcome to attend this free event. Come along, share in the stories, enjoy the music, and help us mark this important anniversary with dignity, warmth and a sense of togetherness.
