Alan is a resident from the East Hampton Ward at Cygnet Bury Hudson, part of the Cygnet Health Care division, which provides a wide range of secure mental health services for men, including individuals with a diagnosis of personality disorder.
He is a lifelong Manchester United fan and jumped at the opportunity to visit the Old Trafford stadium after a suggestion from Paul O’Keefe, a Cygnet Health Care Occupational Therapy Assistant.
The Red Devils fan toured the Old Trafford Museum and stadium, immersing himself in the historic football club’s achievements and heritage.
Alan said: “Since I can remember, I have always been a Manchester United fan. I went to a game many years ago but getting tickets these days can be hard so I always watch them on TV whether they win, lose or draw.
“The whole day was fantastic and I will never forget it. The best part was sitting in the spot of my favourite player – Christian Eriksen – in the changing rooms. It was unreal.
“After that, I sat on the bench in the Manager’s seat and imagined for a minute that I was in charge of my team with Paul as my assistant.”
The duo walked in the footsteps of football legends and heard fascinating stories about what has unfolded within the stadium.
Alan has been at Cygnet Bury Hudson, part of Cygnet Hospital Bury, for a few years and enjoys his monthly leisure trips with the Occupational Therapy team.
He said: “The staff are always very well organised and we always visit interesting places to learn more or develop new skills. I think my next visit might be to the Manchester City stadium.
“Being a Red, it’s hard to even think about visiting the Etihad. But when Paul explained it was a great chance to see how many less trophies they have in comparison to Manchester United and explore the history between the clubs, I had to agree. So, Etihad Stadium here I come!”
