In the past 12 months, the charity has helped more than 120 people who are homeless or sofa-surfing, and many more who approach its team because they are housed but struggling to afford food.
Over the same period, the charity helped 80 people get set up in a new home with household and kitchen items and assisted 60 people in successfully applying for benefits or managing their debt.
Gavin Clayton, Administrator at Chorley Help the Homeless, said: “We would like to sincerely thank David Wilson Homes for its £300 donation, and we appreciate the commitment the company has to supporting the relief of homelessness.
“This contribution will directly support people in the Borough of Chorley who are struggling with homelessness or food poverty. Thanks to the generosity of donations like this we can continue supporting people in need.”
The drop-in centre also offers a housing advice service, as well as computers and phones to help visitors manage their lives. None of this would be possible without the support the charity receives from the local community.
Gavin continued: “Our drop-in community café and foodbank serve emergency food parcels and hot lunchtime meals to visitors who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or struggling financially.
“While some of the food we use for these services is donated by the community, we also must use funding to keep stocked. We will use the generous donation from David Wilson Homes to purchase suitable food items for our foodbank.”
Claire Jarvis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are proud to support Chorley Help the Homeless, as this vital charity is a beacon to the local community and helps support some of its most vulnerable members.
“We are keen to encourage anyone able to support this fantastic charity to do so to ensure it can continue its work in making the lives of the people of Lancashire easier.”
