The students were given a comprehensive tour of the planned 70-home development on Scotforth Road, where Northstone Contracts Manager, John Rush, guided them through the various stages of pre-construction. The visit culminated in an insightful site tour showcasing different stages of foundations and bricklaying, sparking engaging discussions across a wide range of construction and design topics.
Chrissie Bramhall-England, Communities Manager at Northstone, said: "We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to inspire the next generation of designers and builders. At Northstone, we're passionate about not just creating homes but also nurturing talent that will shape the future of sustainable construction."
The Breacla development, which recently celebrated the successful opening of its sales office, The Huddle, is set to deliver a contemporary collection of homes ranging from stylish 2-bedroom apartments to generously proportioned 5-bedroom detached houses. The development features Scandinavian-inspired aesthetics and Northstone’s trademark focus on sustainability, modern living and architectural flair.
“It’s particularly valuable for students to see first-hand how our eco-leading features are implemented,” added Chrissie. “From solar panels and electric car charging points to triple-glazed windows and smart heating systems, we’re building homes that not only look beautiful but are future-proofed for generations to come.”
The students showed particular interest in the sustainable aspects of the development, which includes wastewater heat recovery systems designed to reduce waste and save energy. These practical examples of sustainable design principles provided valuable real-world context to complement their classroom learning.
With construction well underway and showhomes set to launch this autumn, the student visit offered a unique behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s most progressive housing developments.
