Taking the stage at 9pm on May 9, this genre-blending production reclaims the forgotten—and often erased—queer threads of global mythology, offering a night of vibrant storytelling, physical theatre, and community celebration. It’s a timely antidote to the narrow way history is often told.
Created by Bet’n Lev co-founders Joel Samuels and Roann Hassani McCloskey, Remythed dares to ask: what if queer people had always been at the centre of the story? Drawing from characters like Sheherazade and Lady Godiva, five performers take on more than 30 roles, weaving their own lived experiences into timeless tales. The result is moving, mischievous, and refreshingly uplifting.
"We wanted to make something that celebrates queer joy and centres stories that are so often sidelined or erased entirely," said Samuels and McCloskey. "This show is for everyone, but especially for queer communities who deserve to see their lives reflected not just with honesty—but with humour, colour, and love."
It’s a production with serious credentials. After premiering at the VAULT Festival in 2023—where it won 'Show of the Week'—Remythed toured to sell-out performances and a highly praised Edinburgh Fringe run in 2024. Now, with a national tour underway, the show’s return to London for one night only feels like a homecoming.
The Kings Head Theatre, one of the capital’s most respected hubs for fringe and LGBTQ+ theatre, provides an ideal backdrop. With just 60 minutes to tell a multitude of stories, the show pulses with energy, care, and precision. Lighting by Al Simpson and sound by Annie May Fletcher round out the production with theatrical flair.
Part myth, part memoir, Remythed is a theatrical tapestry stitched together by a cast of actors who bring wit, warmth and soul to the stage: Emile Clarke, Ishmael Kirby, Lucy Roslyn, alongside the show’s creators themselves.
Founded as a platform for global queer storytelling, Bet’n Lev’s name combines the Arabic and Hebrew words for ‘belly’ and ‘heart’—a fitting metaphor for a company that puts identity, emotion, and guts right where they belong: centre stage.
