Since Southgate School’s ‘Good’ last inspection in 2019, Ofsted has found that the school has made significant improvements in all areas of the inspection framework.
The Board of Trustees, Local Governing Body, school leaders and staff are delighted that their hard work in delivering an incredibly high quality of education across the school has been recognised.
The school was evaluated on its academic curriculum, lessons, a review of students’ work and meetings with staff and pupils. Southgate School was praised for its exceptionally high expectations of every pupil, its high quality and well sequenced curriculum, and its excellent student outcomes.
The report is fulsome in its praise for students, staff and the whole-school community.
Highlights from the report, include:
- The school has exceptionally high expectations of every pupil. It has designed a curriculum that is broad and ambitious and meets the needs of pupils in the school.
- Teachers are specialists and know their subjects well. They use the most effective teaching strategies to deliver their curriculum. As a result, pupils learn the subject content securely and in depth.
- Pupils at Southgate School are happy, and they enjoy their learning. They like spending time with their friends, and there are strong working relationships between pupils and staff.
- Pupils behave extremely well. They are motivated to collect achievement points and enjoy the many opportunities to celebrate their achievements.
- Pupils with SEND achieve well, including in assessments at the end of Years 11 and 13.
- Pupils are exceptionally well prepared for their lives beyond school. They follow a comprehensive personal, social, health and economic education programme.
- Staff enjoy working at the school. They particularly appreciate how leaders have reduced workload and created flexible ways to work.
The school remains restless in its approach to striving for ‘excellence for all,’ for both students and staff.
