Are you feeling inspired by the London Marathon? Here are the top places to get into running in and around West Hampstead according to local experts

With the highly anticipated London Marathon approaching, some of us are joining in on the fun in search for the best running routes in the Capital. Whether you’re just getting into running, or a long-timer, the big event later this month is definitely motivating.

West Hampstead

Luckily, West Hampstead has a few route gems for you. As experts in this pocket of north-west London, local estate agents  Paramount Properties share their top recommendations for a good stretch of the legs you can try.

West End Lane to Fortune Green Loop

First up we have this short, 3-kilometre loop. This route is ideal for runners looking for a quick jog that still takes in some of West Hampstead’s most iconic streets. Starting on West End Lane, you’ll head north past local cafes and independent shops, then end up in the more leafy ends of Fortune Green. The park offers a peaceful spot to slow the pace or squeeze in a few extra laps. On the way back, you can switch it up and go down Mill Lane to enjoy a quieter route home, taking in the beautiful homes and businesses that line this true neighbourhood asset.

The Railway Heritage Run

The Railway Heritage Run is a 5-kilometre route that takes you from the Overground stations of West Hampstead to Hampstead Heath. It offers a mix of quiet, residential streets and a gentle bit of a hill. You'll closely follow the railway line through charming north-west London neighborhoods, and near the end, you'll reach the edge of the gem Hampstead Heath. There, you can either keep your run going or take a moment to enjoy the views and fresh air before heading back.

West Hampstead to Primrose Hill Push

This 7-kilometre round trip is a favourite among locals, known for its great halfway point views. Starting in West Hampstead, head south toward Finchley Road and through Belsize Park, gradually climbing until you reach the base of Primrose Hill. The push to the top is definitely steep but rewarding. On a clear day, the London skyline makes it great motivation to rest and complete the route. A north-west running favourite, it's ideal for those wanting a more challenging run.

Kilburn Grange Park Intervals Circuit

Kilburn Grange Park is just a short walk from West Hampstead and has a loop about a kilometre long. It’s great for interval training, warm-ups, or easy runs. The park is flat and has wide paths, making it a good choice for beginners or anyone looking to work on speed. With lots of trees and away from busy roads, it’s a peaceful place to run without having to go far, then run back into West Hampstead to finish the route locally.

The Linear Green Escape

For a longer weekend run, this mighty 10-kilometre route links West Hampstead to Regent’s Park and through the peaceful towpaths of the Regent’s Canal. Head southeast toward Maida Vale and join the canal trail. The city sounds will fade and houseboats, bridges, and pretty weeping willows will watch you run.

It’s a favourite among long-distance runners craving a mix of calm and consistency plus, you can cap it off with a loop around Regent’s Park or a cooldown by the lake.
