Kris Mitchell, from Captain Fantastic Kent explains: “Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and entertainment, using ‘edutainment’ to captivate kids and build curiosity towards curriculum based topics. This was a brilliant opportunity to inspire and engage children with science and the events changed the dynamic of their day, encouraging interaction with fun experiments and games.”
Kris who has worked with schools to develop the bespoke programmes continues: “Each part of our awareness days are tailored to different year groups and are all designed to be fun, engaging, and support specific learning objectives. We have collaborated with Matthew King – winner of Primary School Teacher of the Year at the National Pearson Teaching Awards 2023-2024, and Lisa Aaron from "Your School Kit” to develop a series of awareness days for schools which, in addition to science, cover mental health, road safety, growth mindset and online safety.
"Captain Fantastic brought science to life with their fun experiments and exciting games. I learnt lots about Evolution and adaptation.” Sam, Year 6.
“My favourite part was when they exploded a volcano and set fire to his hand!” Maria Year 4.
“What a workshop! It was fun, factual and the children were immersed from start to finish. Kris and Nat demonstrated excellent knowledge while engaging the children in experiments and group games that proved highly entertaining and educational. I will be booking Captain Fantastic again.” Louise Threadgold, Y6 Teacher/Curriculum and Science Lead.
“Kris ran a fantastic workshop! The Year 3s were extremely engaged, the workshop had a great balance of having the children sit and listen as well as move around and take part in activities. It really stuck out how Kris was aware and conscious of making sure all the children felt involved and was great with managing the group!” Miss Shivani Fatania, Year 3 Teacher.
Kris Mitchell continues: “Our Science events are a light touch way to provide useful science education while combining it with non-stop fun. Safe, silly experiments with elephant’s toothpaste, a vortex generator and even some leaf blower madness meant the audience was entertained throughout.”
