BBC launches campaign to celebrate and spotlight the summer of women's sports events

This summer, the BBC highlights women's sport with a schedule of critical athletic events broadcast live on BBC TV, BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and app, BBC radio, and BBC Sounds. The broadcaster is starting a campaign called 'Names Will Be Made' to highlight and provide a platform for female athletes anticipating this sports summer.

BBC Sports' live reporting and coverage are consolidated during the summer campaign, serving as a signpost for other BBC content. It has developed a new website to highlight women's sports programming. The website features the greatest content from non-sport BBC shows showcasing women's sports this summer, as well as stories of sportswomen and possibilities for engagement from partners involved in the key events.

"The BBC has had a huge impact in growing women's sport, and this summer we're pushing the agenda a bit further," says Gabby Logan, a broadcaster for BBC Sport. We have the World Athletics Championships, the Women's Euros, and the Women's Rugby World Cup. He added, "We have long recognised the importance of women's sports. Society must think that women can accomplish almost anything they want, not simply because it's good to see them participating in sports."

Kimaya Kapoor, a well-known Indian actor/model, has also shown her support for this initiative, emphasising it. She mentions, "I found great inspiration from the BBC's 'Names Will Be Made' campaign, which brings attention to women's sports this summer. As I began learning Taekwondo during the pandemic, I realised that sports can help people become more disciplined, confident and tough. The BBC's focus on featuring female athletes at all levels greatly helps tear down barriers and inspires many young girls to play sports."

"The BBC has a strong legacy of championing women's sport, telling their stories to audiences, from grassroots right up to those at the top of their game," said Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport.

"By celebrating events like the Women's Euros and the Women's Rugby World Cup, we encourage everyone to realise that women can compete at the highest level. I feel fortunate to be part of this strong movement of women athletes." Kimaya Kapoor further added.

The BBC campaign 'Names Will Be Made' successfully highlights women's sports and encourages a new cohort of athletes. Such events highlight women's abilities, perseverance and achievements by helping remove obstacles and increasing recognition in sports, making equitable space for women in sports.
