Magical Irish musical For The Lack of Laura comes to London this summer

A sweeping new fantasy romance musical is set to premiere in London this July, promising a unique blend of Celtic folklore, magical realism, and musical theatre flair.

For The Lack of Laura

For The Lack of Laura, the debut stage musical by award-winning American composer and writer Kurt Rosenberg, will open at the Forum Theatre in Malvern from 16th to 19th July before transferring to the Shaw Theatre in London for a limited run from 24th July to 2nd August.

Set against a backdrop of myth and music, For The Lack of Laura tells the story of a young Irish woman who strikes a fateful deal with an evil sorceress. Granted the power to travel through time and space in search of her soulmate, Laura embarks on a breathtaking journey that spans continents and centuries. From 19th-century Paris and the bullrings of Spain to the ballet halls of Russia and the jazz clubs of New Orleans, she encounters a vibrant cast of suitors, each more compelling than the last.

But with each encounter, Laura begins to question whether the magic that powers her journey is a blessing or a curse. As she explores love in many forms and cultures, she’s forced to confront what she truly desires—and what it may cost her to find it.

The musical features 26 original songs performed by a live 16-piece orchestra and a 12-strong ensemble cast. Drawing on influences from Celtic traditions and the classic musical theatre songs, listeners will find echoes of The Beatles, Elton John, Cat Stevens, and David Bowie in Rosenberg’s heartfelt compositions.

“After 25 years in the making, I am thrilled that Morgan Brothers is bringing my musical, For the Lack of Laura, to England." Rosenberg says.

Rosenberg brings an impressive musical pedigree to the project. He has previously collaborated with Tim Gorman (former keyboardist for The Who), the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony. His film compositions have won Best Music Video at the London Independent Film Awards and Best Composer at the Berlin Film Awards.

The production is directed by director Luke Morgan and produced by Morgan Brothers, an Irish company known for their cross-genre storytelling. Their recent credits include a national tour of The Little Prince, the international production of Crime and Punishment, and several award-winning films including The Boat(2023), an Oscar®-qualifying short, and Froggie (2024), which won Best Film at the Worcester Film Festival.

For The Lack of Laura brings together fantasy, romance, and theatrical magic to remind us of the simple fact:
