Fisher German is celebrating its 25th anniversary with its ‘Big 25’ charity challenge, where colleagues will travel between the firm’s 25 UK office locations without using motorised transport. This giant 25-week relay aims to raise at least £25,000 which will be distributed among 25 charities.
The firm has also pledged to match-fund any donations up to £25,000 from supporters, meaning a total of £50,000 could be split between the charities.
The challenge was officially launched by a team of colleagues from Fisher German’s London office, based at Becket House on Old Jewry.
They kicked off the event by walking through the centre of London and then will be walking and cycling their way along the Grand Union Canal to the firm’s Birmingham office over seven days, covering 148 miles.
The London office has chosen XLP, a charity that creates positive futures for young people in inner-city London, as its beneficiary.
XLP, located near Fisher German’s London office, supports young people facing challenges such as family breakdown, unemployment, educational failure, and living in areas with high levels of anti-social behaviour and gang violence.
Inspired by Fisher German’s travelling challenge, XLP will use the funds raised to support its double decker buses, which serve as mobile youth centres providing games, food and safe places on estates where there is little to no youth work and high incidences of anti-social behaviour.
The Big 25 challenge coincides with Fisher German undergoing a major rebrand, positioning it as a pioneering, driven consultancy with trusted experts who share knowledge across the business and provide substantial added value to clients.
The firm has also updated its external logo and colours to reflect a shift in mindset, a change in its growth strategy, and its future ambitions.
Future Big 25 legs will see colleagues travel by horseback, roller skates, tandem bikes and even skis as part of the mammoth 2,400-mile journey between the offices.
Partner Robert Haigh, who works in Fisher German’s valuations team in London, said: “We’re extremely pleased to kick off Fisher German’s Big 25 challenge and make our way to the Birmingham office for the first leg of the relay.
“We became Fisher German in September 2000 following the merger of property firms Fisher Hoggarth and John German, but our roots, however, stretch back to pre-1830.
“The firm has grown considerably, and the relay is a fantastic way to unite colleagues from right across the business. There’s certainly a competitive edge too, with people taking on all kinds of unique modes of travel across huge distances as part of the challenge.
“Starting and finishing at our London office also shows how Fisher German has evolved as a business, and is now thriving in urban markets while not forgetting its rural roots.
“We’re also very pleased to be supporting XLP. The charity is based very close to our office and does incredible work to support around 4,000 young people every single year.
“Not only will they receive an equal share of all of the money raised, but we will also be holding skills workshops with some of the young people they support as part of our ongoing relationship.”
Tim Sledge, Director of Fundraising at XLP, said: “XLP is thrilled to be part of Fisher German’s Big 25 challenge.
“Their trek through the UK mirrors the many challenges disadvantaged young Londoners face, and we are so grateful for Fisher German literally going the extra mile to change young lives for the better.”
