Surf in the city at Brockwell Lido to support inner city kids with live changing ocean experiences

City Kids Surfing charity hosts paddle races at surf themed fundraising event on Saturday 26th April.

Surf in the City

City Kids Surfing, a charity dedicated to providing transformative surfing experiences for children from London's most underserved areas, is partnering with Brockwell Lido to host a surf-themed fundraising event on Saturday, 26th April. The family-friendly event will feature the first-ever paddle races on surfboards at the Lido, along with a variety of activities including surf yoga, mindfulness, breathwork, face painting and a cold-water Easter egg hunt. All proceeds from the day will support City Kids Surfing, helping to provide children with access to life-changing experiences in the UK's oceans.

The children supported by City Kids Surfing charity are from disadvantaged urban areas, most of whom have never seen the ocean and some have never left London. On the tailored programme they challenge themselves physically and mentally, building resilience, determination and self-confidence. They learn tools to promote positive mental health and wellbeing and become part of a community of friends and mentors who are behind them all the way.

Tom Franklin, City Kids Surfing Founder, comments: “Giving children from underserved communities the chance to get to the ocean and learn new skills is the core of our work. Taking on a new challenge and pushing themselves to do something new helps our kids develop self-esteem and resilience and the impact this can have on their life and progression at school is quite incredible. We have big aspirations to grow our charity and impact even more children and the funds we raise at this event will support this. The charity is rooted in South London and we hope the community will get behind this cause and support local kids that would benefit from our programme.”

Scarlett Hayward, General Manager at Brockwell Lido, adds: “Brockwell Lido has always been at the heart of the community which is why we’re so excited to team up with City Kids Surfing for this amazing event. We're proud to support a charity that gives inner-city kids the chance to experience the ocean and help them build confidence, try something new and have an adventure they might not otherwise get.”

City Surfer Kids ‘Cold Water Surf Series’ will bring together surfers and water lovers of all ages and skill levels for a day of ocean-themed fun. Activities include both 50m and 100m paddle races on surfboards across Brockwell Lido’s pool where fancy dress is encouraged, a surfers' yoga taster session, face painting, mindfulness exercises and breathwork. There will also be a cold-water Easter egg hunt and raffle, with prizes including a Finisterre Yulex wetsuit, a Voited surf poncho, meal vouchers for Harrods, vouchers for Yogapoint Brixton, tickets for the London Surf Film Festival, family tickets for Skrek Adventure and more.

Tickets £5, under 12s are free. Bookable here.
