The Stage welcomes a brand-new immersive pop-up with Gary James McQueen

The Stage, a landmark mixed-use development in the heart of Shoreditch, welcomes a pop up from the acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Gary James McQueen - nephew and former collaborator of iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

Visitors will be able to view new and exclusive lenticular artworks alongside best sellers from Gary James McQueen’s catalogue, each blending digital craftsmanship with deeply personal narratives, exploring the beauty found within darkness and transformation.

The pop-up invites visitors into McQueen’s immersive, dreamlike world and showcases one of the artist’s major series: Talisman Skulls, inspired by Tibetan beliefs. The artist transforms the skull, often a symbol of mortality, into one of luck, memory, and resilience. Four new versions of the Kintsugi skull will be on display for the first time prior to their release later this year. Alongside these works, the gallery will feature works including Savage Beauty, Eternal Bloom and Flayed Angel.

“I am absolutely delighted to have this pop-up studio in Shoreditch, the epicentre of creativity and innovation,” says Gary James McQueen. “Being surrounded by like-minded artists, tech pioneers, and forward-thinking entrepreneurs fuels my artistic vision and inspires me to continue to push boundaries."

A protégé of his late uncle Lee Alexander McQueen, Gary’s creative foundation is built on bold storytelling, avant-garde aesthetics, and cinematic inspiration. Their shared love of fantasy and horror-from An American Werewolf in London to Legend continues to inform the visual language in Gary’s work. This Shoreditch pop-up marks another major milestone in McQueen’s career, offering London audiences a rare opportunity to experience his visionary practice up close. Situated on the site of Shakespeare’s historic Curtain Theatre, The Stage is a 2.3-acre mixed-use development that includes a 37–storey residential tower with 412 apartments, two office buildings, as well as over 60,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space and more than an acre of new public realm. The Stage will also include the Museum of Shakespeare, currently being developed in collaboration with creative studio Bompas & Parr, Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) and Historic England, alongside a panel of Shakespearean academic advisors.
