Free sporting fun for ‘SEND’ kids in Lewisham

This Easter, the Alex Yee Arena in Ladywell will be buzzing with an assortment of fantastic free events for young people with special needs.

SEND-friendly sports at the Alex Yee Arena in Ladywell

Youngsters aged 4 – 25 who are d/Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent are invited to take part in a range of exciting sports and games that have been adapted for their individual needs.

The timetable will be as follows -

  • Monday 7 April – tennis, dance and sensory football
  • Wednesday 9 April – Taekwondo, dance and athletics
  • Tuesday 15 April – adaptive cycling and athletics
  • Thursday 17 April – tennis and sensory football

All activities run between 10 – 12. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

The event has been organised by charity Access Sport in partnership with a number of other organisations including the London Borough of Lewisham and charitable social enterprise GLL. GLL runs the Alex Yee Arena under the ‘Better’ brand.

Matthew Houghton, GLL's Community Sports Manager in the borough, comments, "We're delighted to be hosting such a groundbreaking and inclusive event supporting some of south London's most vulnerable young people. It promises to be a lot of fun! We’re proud to be working with Access Sport, Lewisham Council and other local partners from across the London Borough of Lewisham.”
