In 2023 Lou brought together a group of bereaved mothers who had all lost a child to a brain tumour, mothers with the same goal to change the outcome for children with brain cancer. In October 2023 Lou and 7 other mums skydived in aid of the Tessa Jowell Foundation, a charity set up in memory of the late Dame Tessa Jowell that works to elevate standards of brain cancer treatment and care across the UK.
They raised over £77,000 from that skydive and in the coming months their numbers devastatingly grew to 26, and these incredible “Angel Mums” were determined to do more. In 2024 they completed an Earth, Wind and Fire Challenge - Hiking Snowdon, Wing Walking and a Fire Walk.
To date they have collectively raised over £160,000 for the Tessa Jowell Foundation, contributing to launch of the national Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission’s Centres of Excellence for Children Programme, which assesses standards of brain cancer treatment and care in every UK hospital and works with each centre to elevate those standards, ensuring every child receives the same standard of care - no matter where they live.
Alongside these extreme challenges Lou has always wanted to do more. Last year she hosted the inaugural Gorgeous George Charity football in partnership with Sellebrity Soccer at Barton Rovers FC, raising £15,000. On April 18th 2025, in the same week as the 3 year anniversary of George’s death, a second match was held, again at Barton Rovers. Raising over £10,000 for the Tessa Jowell Foundation with the help of Sellebrity Soccer.
George was an avid supporter of Arsenal Football Club and would often attend matches with Lou, his Dad Matthew and his siblings Issy and Jamie. Since his passing Lou has wanted to do something in conjunction with Arsenal Football club to honour George, and thanks to the team at Sellebrity Soccer, this month she gets to fulfill that wish.
On Thursday 29th May 2025, Sellebrity Soccer are hosting a match at the Emirates Stadium raising funds for the London Royal Free Charity and the Tessa Jowell Foundation in memory of Gorgeous George Fox.
Lou had this to say: “To be able to raise money for a cause that we are so passionate about whilst inviting families to come along and enjoy an event that we KNOW George would have loved means so much to us as a family.
We wish George were here with us to enjoy this, his favourite things; family, friends and football. We have so many precious memories at the Emirates, especially during George’s 11 months of battling his brain tumour. George SHOULD be here with us, our hearts shouldn’t be broken and until we can change the journey and the outcome for other children diagnosed with a brain tumour we can’t give up. Thank you to Sellebrity soccer for giving us the chance to honour George at his beloved Arsenal’s ground”
The match will feature a range of television and media celebrities as well as some outstanding former professional footballers. Confirmed players so far are:
- Jack Wilshere
- Jamie O’Hara
- Callum Best
- Man Like Haks
- Graham Stack
- David Bentley,
- Jeremy Lynch,
- Jimmy Constable,
- Monty Panesar
- and George's primary school teacher and social media influencer Kit Brown.
Kit has been part of all three of Lou’s football fundraisers in memory of George.
Kit had this to say “George Fox is a young boy that I met on my very first placement as a teacher and I can safely say that no child has had a greater impact on me. His energy, caring nature and smile is something I’ll miss in my classroom each and every day. We had such a wonderful relationship and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to teach such a lovely young boy. A picture of us two together never leaves my teaching desk. I’m so grateful to George’s beautiful family for inviting me to play in the name of George, combining all of the things he loved, friends, football and family. I can’t think of a better way to carry on his legacy - forever 13”
The match will be held at Emirates Stadium on May 29th at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Eventbrite here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/celebrity-charity-football-match-at-emirates-stadium-tickets-1337997619899?aff=oddtdtcreator
