Bangladesh Caterers Association meets UK's new High Commissioner

The Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) and its executive members had the honour of meeting with Her Excellency Abida Islam, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the United Kingdom.

The delegation included BCA President Oli Khan MBE, Secretary General Mitu Chowdhury, Chief Treasurer Tipu Rahman, former Presidents M A Munim OBE and Mohammed Yaqub, along with other key members.

 As one of the oldest and most influential Bangladeshi organisations in the UK, the BCA plays a vital role in the British economy, contributing £4.5 billion annually and providing employment to over 100,000 people. Since its inception, the association has been dedicated to supporting restaurateurs and businesses while actively engaging in charitable and voluntary work both in the UK and internationally.

During the meeting, Her Excellency Abida Islam expressed her admiration for the BCA’s long-standing contributions and its positive impact on communities. She acknowledged the association’s dedication to strengthening and supporting not only the Bangladeshi business community but also wider society.

 “The BCA’s commitment to social responsibility and economic growth is commendable,” said Her Excellency. “Their efforts in fostering cultural and business ties between Bangladesh and the UK are truly invaluable.”

The Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) was founded in 1960 and stands as the oldest, largest, and most influential catering organisation of its kind in the UK.

Representing over 12,000 Great British curry houses (restaurants) and takeaways, London-based BCA has played a vital role in shaping the British culinary landscape.

The association remains committed to its mission of supporting businesses, fostering community engagement, and upholding its tradition of philanthropy.
