London law firm takes on Lake District challenge to raise money for MND charity

A gruelling hike through the Lake District, bake sales, raffles and team lunches have helped law firm Simons Muirhead Burton (SMB) raise more than £33,000 to support people living with motor neurone disease (MND).

The team at Simons Muirhead Burton has raised more than £33,000 for the MND Association

The London-based company, which employs 150 staff and consultants and specialises in corporate and commercial law, crime and regulatory and media, supported the MND Association throughout 2024 raising a total of £33,322.

The Association, which is the biggest charity funder of MND research in the UK, was chosen as SMB’s charity of the year, as many people within the company had first-hand experience of the disease which affects as many as 5,000 people at any one time.

John Harrington, Senior Associate and chair of SMB’s CSR committee said: “Many of us have been impacted by MND and have experience of the amazing work the MND Association does. It was a universally popular choice when one of our staff proposed the MND Association should be our charity partner for 2024. It was a partnership that the firm could enthusiastically support and has in fact led to a record-breaking year of fundraising.

“Although it was a delight to get out of London into the mountains for the weekend, the Lake District challenge was incredibly difficult.

“The team, however, was amazing and we are delighted to have raised so much money. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who donated it was worth enduring the long days, inclement weather and sore bodies!

“Everyone at SMB is proud to have contributed to and achieved such a brilliant total for the MND Association. Thanks again to everyone, internally and externally, who have donated throughout the year. It is brilliant to see the culmination of all our hard work.”

The MND Association’s Senior Corporate Partnerships Executive, Charlotte Taylor said: “We are so grateful to the team at SMB for everything they have done to support our work this year. Together, they have raised an incredible amount which will allow us to support many more living with this truly devastating disease.

“The money will also help us to fund more clinical trials and give MND researchers the resources they need to find the breakthrough which will take us closer to potential new therapies and treatments.

“Our continued investment in research gives hope to so many for a world free from MND.”
