The Making of a Presenter
Ruby’s passion for presenting began early. “I have always loved creating videos and content,” she says. “Ever since I was little, I would film videos with my sister, pretending we had our own popular YouTube channels!” What began as playful childhood creativity has since blossomed into a serious career ambition.
Inspired by TV personalities like Adam B, Joe Tasker, and Ant & Dec, Ruby decided to launch her own YouTube channel, RubyTubeYT, in 2022. “I want to inspire, entertain, and bring smiles to people’s faces,” she explains. “Seeing presenters who stay true to themselves really influenced me—I want to do the same and connect with audiences in a genuine way.”
A Future in Children’s TV – and Beyond
Ruby’s sights are firmly set on the vibrant world of children’s television. Shows like Saturday Mash Up, Blue Peter, and CBBC’s live links top her dream list. “I love the high-energy, fast-paced nature of these shows. There’s something about live TV that brings such a fun, chaotic energy—and I thrive in that kind of environment,” she says.
But her ambitions don’t stop there. Ruby’s long-term goals include branching into game shows, chat shows, and large-scale entertainment events. “I’d love to present shows that involve comedy, challenges or audience interaction,” she adds. “It’s all about creating moments that make people smile.”
Resilience Through Criticism
Though she’s passionate and driven, Ruby’s journey hasn’t been without hurdles. Sharing her career aspirations online led to bullying from schoolmates who mocked her ambitions. “They judged and made fun of my dreams,” she recalls. “But instead of letting it bring me down, I used it to fuel my motivation.”
That strength of character is what sets Ruby apart. “It taught me to stay focused on my goals and to always believe in myself. I’ve learned that staying true to who I am is what will lead me to success.”
Training with the Best: Adam B’s Channel Boost Programme
Ruby’s recent experience with Adam B’s Channel Boost Programme has taken her skills to new heights. “When I saw Adam’s Instagram story about the course, I applied with no expectations,” she says. “When I got in, I was thrilled. It was surreal learning from someone I’ve admired for so long.”
Being one of the youngest participants didn’t phase Ruby—in fact, it empowered her. “I felt like my confidence really grew. I learned how to clarify my niche, improve my editing, and create content that truly reflects who I am.”
The most valuable takeaway? “Adam taught me to pick a specific niche and stick to it. That advice changed the way I think about content. I now feel much more confident and clear about my direction.”
What’s Next for Ruby Sussex?
As she prepares to finish her GCSEs, Ruby is already mapping out her next steps. She plans to attend a creative college specialising in media production and acting for screen. “I want to study Creative Media Production and Acting for Screen in Sixth Form,” she says. “It’s all about gaining experience and building my toolkit as a presenter.”
Ruby is also hoping to collaborate with other creators and presenters in the near future. “It would be a dream to work with someone like Joe Tasker,” she beams. “His energy and presenting style are exactly what I aspire to.”
And what about her sister Millie? While Ruby prefers to keep her family life relatively private, she does confirm that Millie is also forging her own path in the industry. “We’ve always been creative together,” Ruby says. “It’s exciting that we’re both pursuing our passions—it definitely feels like we’re part of something special.”
Advice for Aspiring Creators
Ruby’s advice for others is simple but powerful: “Do what you love. Focus on quality over quantity, and don’t let negativity stop you. One video could change everything.”
As she continues to grow her channel, refine her presenting skills, and pursue new opportunities, there’s no doubt Ruby Sussex is one to watch. With talent, drive, and a clear vision—plus a potential sister act in the works—this teenage star is only just getting started.
