Manchester Man Overcomes Near Death Illness to Launch Bold Campaign Tackling Homelessness and Social Change

A Manchester man who battled back from the brink of death has launched a groundbreaking campaign to combat homelessness and inspire systemic change across the UK.

Managing Director of Revolution Cognition Dan Wright.

Dan Wright, 38, founded the initiative, dubbed ‘Revolution Cognition,’ after surviving a harrowing battle with Crohn’s disease, suspected Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and a perforated bowel.

Despite losing speech and mobility and being repeatedly misdiagnosed and discharged from A&E with steroids that masked his symptoms, Dan persevered through a gruelling recovery journey.

A turning point came when doctors discovered lesions on his brain and warned that his bowel required life-altering surgery to remove his colon. Determined to avoid the procedure, he relied on a rigorous mindset and alternative practices, including focused breathing and cold showers.

His determination paid off and a month later, doctors were stunned to find his bowel healing, and he was discharged.

"The mind is so powerful, and I had faith I could heal through positivity and resilience,” Dan said.

“It’s a miracle I’m still here, but it’s no accident. Now, I want to use my journey to help those suffering and bring real change to a world disillusioned with its leaders and systems."

Through ‘Revolution Cognition,’ he aims to reshape Manchester with a vision grounded in fairness, opportunity, and compassion. The movement prioritises tackling homelessness, empowering young talent, and fostering sustainable, inclusive growth.

Dan’s inspiration stems from his time in hospital, where he witnessed widespread suffering. He recalled meeting an eight-year-old boy receiving treatment after expressing suicidal thoughts.

"It was heartbreaking," he said. "Meanwhile, our leaders focus on cutting costs for the vulnerable instead of addressing real issues. It’s not right, and people are tired of it. We need accountability and meaningful action."

The Manchester man’s campaign is built on holistic solutions. His plans include creating integrated shelters with services like wellness therapies, mindfulness programs, education, and job support - addressing the root causes of homelessness rather than offering temporary fixes.

He also hopes to inspire the next generation, with plans for a nationwide university tour to engage young people in conversations about systemic issues. “Our mission is to reconnect people with community and shared humanity by transforming the political landscape,” he added.

Drawing on his background - from working Manchester markets and car pitches to founding a successful car finance brokerage – the Durham University Philosophy graduate believes his experiences, including overcoming addiction and mental health challenges, equip him to lead this change.

"I’ve seen the shameful neglect of marginalised groups, especially the homeless. Change starts with small, meaningful actions, not excuses," he said.

Dan is also rallying support from major brands and public figures to amplify the movement. By forming partnerships with companies across industries like fashion, sports, and nutrition, ‘Revolution Cognition’, which is based in Beetham Tower, Manchester, aims to reach diverse audiences and channel its message in innovative ways.

As his campaign gains momentum, Dan remains optimistic about the future. "We’re moving in the right direction," he said. "This is just the beginning. Change is coming to Manchester, and I can’t wait to see it unfold."
