Marking its fifth year of building the ‘new, new build’, Northstone has achieved a significant financial milestone, reporting a turnover exceeding £75 million reflecting both sustained commercial success and the growing demand for Northstone’s design-led, sustainable homes.
Over the past year, 322 new residents have moved into Northstone homes, reflecting the developer’s growing footprint and appeal across the North West. The business has now delivered over 800 new homes, contributing to the housing needs of communities in various locations, including Wigan, Bolton, Pendle and Ellesmere Port.
2024 saw Northstone successfully complete two major developments, while seven more are currently underway and an additional three are set to launch in the coming months. These projects form part of a long-term strategy to provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes and create welcoming, connected neighbourhoods.
In total, eight new neighbourhoods have been established to date, each carefully designed to prioritise sustainability, community wellbeing, and modern Scandinavian inspired living with open plan layouts and floor to ceiling windows. The move into new headquarters at the Venus Building in Trafford Park marks another key milestone in Northstone’s journey, providing a dynamic new base to support future growth.
This year also saw the launch of Cynefin, a bold new development in Horwich that brings Northstone’s distinctive approach to homebuilding to a new community, offering innovative design and thoughtful placemaking in one of Greater Manchester’s most desirable locations that will attract those looking for City style living in the suburbs.
Northstone continues to build momentum through strategic partnerships that broaden housing choice and promote inclusion. In the last 12 months, the business has strengthened collaborations with leading housing and rental partners including Casa by Moda, Bolton at Home, Torus Homes, and Great Places Housing Group. These partnerships play a pivotal role in delivering mixed-tenure developments that enable more people to access quality homes in thriving locations.
Beyond bricks and mortar, Northstone has reaffirmed its commitment to community impact through a range of local initiatives. The 7UP programme, developed in partnership with local schools, has given Year 7 pupils real-world insight into housebuilding and construction careers through site visits and hands-on learning experiences.
The launch of the firm’s innovative Construction Crew gave hands on work experience to those looking for a career in the sector; as well as supporting Gillian Hughes through the Women Into Home Building programme run by the HBF. The business has also worked with local artists to deliver public art workshops and community exhibition projects that bring vibrancy, identity and creativity into its neighbourhoods.
Furthering its support for local causes, Northstone has pledged commitment to various sports clubs including Horwich cricket club, built a running track at a Barrowford school, held events such as wreath making at Christmas, sponsored local events such as the Pendle Pub Walk and made a donation to the Colne Open Door Centre, helping launch a breakfast club that offers free food to children, ensuring young people in the area have a positive and nutritious start to the day.
Craig Nutter, Managing Director of Northstone, said: “This year has been transformational for Northstone. As we mark five years of building the ‘new, new build’, we’re proud not just of our growth, but of the difference we’re making in people’s lives. From delivering beautiful, energy-efficient homes to funding breakfast clubs and bringing art into communities – we’re showing that developers really can create thoughtful communities and make a real difference at grass roots level where we are building.
Our move to Trafford Park signalled the next chapter in our journey and with exciting new developments, partnerships and community initiatives in the pipeline, the best is still to come.”
As Northstone prepares for another ambitious year ahead, its mission remains clear: to build better homes, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future for everyone.
