Schoolgirl’s British Sandwich Week creation to be used in national campaign by CRIMPiT

A Manchester schoolgirl is celebrating British Sandwich Week (19-25 May) by creating a healthy sandwich for CRIMPiT - winning food vouchers for her school, CRIMPiTs for her classmates and becoming part of a national marketing campaign.

Soha Butt, 8, winner of the CRIMPiT healthy sandwich competiton

Soha Butt’s delicious fruit, honey and nut wrap was chosen by the CRIMPiT team in a competition that invited schoolchildren to invent a healthy sandwich that would taste good, while giving them energy throughout the day.

The leading kitchen gadget range creates sealed sandwiches in minutes, using wraps, thin bread or white toastie bread. Soha, aged 8, who attends Rushbrook Primary Academy in Gorton, Manchester, created a sandwich using a wrap, containing banana, blueberries, grapes, strawberries and honey, with almonds for extra crunch. Her sandwich is folded and sealed in the CRIMPiT Wrap and eaten fresh, for a delicious and healthy lunchtime treat.

“I love fresh fruit,” says Soha. “The weather has been so nice, so this is a good sandwich for Summer.”

Bananas, blueberries and grapes are in the top 10 healthiest fruits according to BBC Good Food and Soha’s addition of honey would help the immune system, while the almonds contain lots of healthy fats, fibre, protein, magnesium, and vitamin E – although they could be substituted with sunflower seeds or crispy rice cereal.

“Encouraging our pupils to eat well is always high on the agenda here at Rushbrook Primary Academy and we were delighted to hear that Soha’s entry was chosen as the winning Sandwich,” says teacher Val Helliar.

“We all loved designing different fillings and we’re looking forward to using the vouchers and CRIMPiTs in our Design and Tech lessons to make even more healthy, energy-giving sandwiches like this one.”

“We understand the challenge busy families face in preparing healthy packed lunches every day,” says Mike Harper, co-founder of CRIMPiT. “The beauty of the CRIMPiT is that it can be used to create delicious sandwiches from scratch, or toasties using leftovers, or in this case, a lovely fresh fruit wrap.

“All the entries were creative and tasty-looking, but we loved Soha’s illustrations and her use of fruit and added nuts.”
